Cathedral and "frozen" water fountains

When I worked across the street from the cathedral, I would always walk through the park and tell myself how beautiful this old church was. Fountains were added little over a year ago only to compliment the park. So I've always wondered how to capture both the fountains and the building at the same time while still making the building look beautiful. I though a 'shutter assignment' would be the great opportunity to do this! I decided to focus on the water in order to show the stop-motion affect of a fast shutter speed. So this is what I got:

Camera settings:
Shutter Priority Mode
Focal Length: 28mm
Shutter speed: 1/2500
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 400

  1. The freezing moment of the water motion was good. However, the cross pole and flag did not add to the graphic of the photo. Especially what you want to show is the church at the back. Elimination and inclusion are the two very crucial thing in composition in photography. Pay more attention to it to clean up your photo.
